If you are attempting to plan a birthday party for a child with a winter birthday, you may be struggling. The good news is that while it seems requiring little effort to plan a birthday outdoors at the park, swimming pool, or even the backyard, there are still a great deal of fun and originative choices for those kids born for the duration of the winter months. Winter itself may lend a fun theme to a birthday party. So before you give up, and just go the local party venue, here are a good deal of unique, and creative, winter birthday party ideas-

Snow party- This party works best for 6-8 year olds. Whether you genuinely have snow or not, the snow itself makes a great theme.

For the requests to take part you will need-

White construction paper (for each snowman’s body)

Various other bits of paper, ribbon, or yarn to decorate each one

Markers

Scissors

Glue

Instructions for the project-Make a snowman body for each party guests. Use the bits of paper, ribbon and yarn to embellish one side and then write the party selective information on the other.

Decorations for this party are exceedingly easy. Don’t worry regarding sameness all the snow (real snow is rather unique). Keep your eyes open for snow themed plates, cups, napkins and table coverings around Christmas time (even in warmer climates). You may also embellish the party area, by hanging up established snow flakes from the ceiling.

For the goody bags, you may add anything snow themed, but a fun touch would be a fancified snowflake sugar cookie. You may have the cookies baked before and laying out on a table. Each child receives a plastic knife, and container of frosting and a good deal of sprinkles. Let each child embellish their own cookie and then cautiously place them in a zip-top bag to be taken home.

Tubing party- It may be difficult to please a picky pre-teen, even on their birthday. This birthday party is easy to put together, affordable, and teens will love the activity-centered theme. This party works best for the 11-13 year old age group.

Instructions for the project-There is no need to spend a lot of time putting together cunning requests to take part for this age group. Have your birthday boy or girl support you print a computer message inviting their friends to a tubing party. Be sure to include specific instructions on when you will leave, return and the suggested mode of dress.

For traveling to the tubing site-If you have to travel more then in regards to 20 minutes, you may want to consider having a snack on hand. Depending on the time of day, consider having a water bottle, energy bar, or candy bar for each party guest.

While tubing be sure to get a picture of each of the party guests, coming down the hill. You may print out the pictures later, place in a frame (you may find winter themed ones affordably at your local dollar store), and give them out as party favors. Be sure to include a heap of group shots as well.

When returning home-In lieu of birthday cake, be sure to have a great deal of hot chocolate and yummy donuts for your party guests to refuel on.

Princess Winter Wonderland party- There is no reason not to combine two themes into one party. Little girls will love the idea of being the princess, of the winter wonderland. This party works best for girls in the 5-8 year old, age group.

For the requests to participate or be present you will need-

Instructions for the project-Write or print out, the party data onto the cardstock. Glue on the plastic snowflake as a ornamental accent. Place inside the envelope. On the outside of the envelope, stamp an effigy of the princess, (using the stamp and ink pad), and before it dries, pour the white glitter sprinkles over it. Before sealing the envelopes, add a great deal of confetti snowflakes, so that they will fall when the invitation is opened.

For decorations-Use white and clear plastic snowflakes and cardboard stars, (all of these may be found at dollar stores), hung in a random pattern from the ceiling. You may also place white and light blue streamers, around each of the door openings.

For party favors-You will want to provide a princess tiara, or crown, glitter stick, (you may tie ribbons and bells on the bottom), and princess themed candy, for each party guest.

Gingerbread House Party- Kids of most ages will get enjoyment from assembling these “gingerbread” houses.

For the requests to take part you will need-

Brown construction paper

Other colors of construction paper

Googly eyes

Glue

Trace a gingerbread man shape on to brown paper with one of your cookie cutters, or find a template online. Have the birthday child embellish the man with googly eyes and colored paper pieces, affixing them with glue.

For decorations- Use white streamers all over the house, proposing white frosting. Fluffs of quilt batting in strategic places could represent snow.

For party favors-cellophane baggies with gingerbread men erasers and real gingerbread men to eat on their way home.

For the party- Decorate “gingerbread” houses using graham crackers, hot glue (with adult supervision!) and frosting. Don’t forget the candy pieces for decoration.

Snow Wars- Make sure guests dress appropriately for this outside party.

For the requests to take part you will need-

These super easy requests to take part are fun to make. Trace a circle on white paper using a glass or bowl, depending on the size you want to fit in an envelope. Cut our your snowball, and have the birthday child write the party details on it.

For decorations-Different embellishing necessaries for a dissimilar kind of party. Make sure the entryway is wide open for everyone to shed boots, hats, coats and scarves and mittens after the snow war. Decorate the yard with white Christmas lights and spray decorations on the snow with feed coloring in a water bottle.

For the party-Party guests will divide into teams, build a snow fort and make snowballs. You may provide ice cream scoops or bread pans for these creations. Set a timer, start out the war, and join in! After a winner is declared, every one wins with hot chocolate and cookies fresh out of the oven inside.

Simply Amazing

After trying out several different types of snowshoe’s (Tubbs, MSR Evo, Others) The Lightning Ascent is just far superior. I have used them in deep powder, Ice, very steep terrain, uneven terrain, and crossing through rocky flowing streams (thanks to gortex boots keeping my feet dry) and these snowshoe’s do not miss a beat. They are also comfortable, fit easily over various boots (I’ve used traditional hiking boots, Snowboarding boots, tennis shoe’s) and haven’t had any major issues; Although, I do recommend atleast a somewhat hard boot as the straps dig into your foot a little bit if using a really soft boot or tennis shoes. Also, make sure you get the right size for your weight PLUS gear. I rented the 22′s but at the time I was about 220 pounds including all my gear which led to a not-so-pleasent trip. I am 190 pounds and use the Lightning Ascent 25′s.

Best shoe out there

This is the first snowshoe I’ve owned but it’s the best I’ve used. I use this for mountaineering which requires me to go up and down steep slopes both snowy and icy and all combinations thereof. I’m about 160 lbs and the 25in is perfect for me. I would say in about every situation get the 25in and the tails if necessary unless you are just really big and heavy and sink like a stone in even moderate density snow.

This has great crampons and a large portion of the teeth are on the outside frame which gives me much more gripping power and stability on challenging surfaces like iced over snow where previous deep boot tracks when it was softer snow have made the surface very uneven and spotty. I never felt like I was unstable even when tracking sideways on a steep and icy slope.

This also gives decent flotation especially with the extra tails on super soft powder which is abundant in Utah. But even with these things on you can get up to your chest in powder when going up steep terrain and a minimum of up past your knees when traversing steep slopes in Utah snow. It’s just the nature of the ultra fine powder. Kick stepping works well with these in deeper snow as the external frame is super solid and it flicks the snow off well when you’re going for your next step.

The televators (bars that you flick up to support your heel going up slopes) are saviors on steep hills. Other models also provide them but some of them drop down in the course of moving. These are super solid and stay in place. I can put them half way down just off the heel of my boots and it will stay in position so I can easily get them up again. Also, I’ve had them where I accidentally only put them up about to vertical and they didn’t fall down even when treating them rough.

I’ve used these with regular hiking boots and double plastic mountaineering boots and they work well with them both.

The other plus is that it’s slightly lighter than MSR plastic snowshoes or other plastic or aluminum framed shoes from other manufacturers.

I liked this so much, I got another pair (black this time, whereas my first pair had a yellow frame) so I could use them in different locations where I stay and climb. I have to say I like the yellow color better. Really looks cool.

This is a winner in every category. Outstanding.

The perfect snowshoes…but MSR had to replace them due to issues with the decking material

I first tried these snowshoes at one of REI’s Demo Days events at Echo Lake in Colorado and they were almost perfect – what a HUGE difference compared to the base EVO model we tried out. With the exception of the binding knobs being somewhat difficult to secure the loose strap of the binding (I was told this gets easier over time as it gets broken in), the shoes were great for moving on groomed, flat trails and hilly, snow-covered inclines with the leveling step. After trekking around for just an hour or so I was sold so I went out and bought these for myself and a pair of the 22″ women’s Lightning Ascent shoes for my wife.

Unfortunately the first time I used the ones I purchased, the decking material not only frayed a bit as the MSR rep told me they would but I actually had a full 1/4″ tear after using these on cleanly groomed trails in Silverthorne, CO. Fortunately MSR was quick to replace them and they’re currently in the mail on their way back to me so hopefully no more issues occur.

Even though I’ve only been snowshoeing for a little over a year, I can comfortably say that these have to be some of the best snowshoes out there because of the attention to design and features. And I’ll still give them a 4/5 even though MSR had to replace my first pair.

Despite this little device being launched on a 932 cubic foot homemade hot air balloon powered by Tiki torches, which after reaching an altitude of 730 feet, caught fire and dropped the camera (along with the burners) into a 200′ conifer, in a rain-forest, in the Pacific Northwest, during the month of February, and then not being found for another three months until after being blown out out the tree during a major windstorm and then randomly “stumbled upon” while laying on the forest floor, on the side of a ravine…

I pressed the power/control button…it came on!

I hooked it up to the computer…and downloaded an hour of aerial footage including; a fire, a crash, and my search party.

It still takes video…

Small Package, Big Results

I purchased this video cam for a special project that I couldn’t use my regular video camera for. The sound quality is outstanding. In well lit ares and day light, the picture quality is absolutely amazing. However, the quality is kind of grainy in night light or dimly lit areas. This little video camera is absolutely amazing. It records up to 2-hrs, no problem. I put it on my dash board and recorded as I drove, the video was unbelievable. I absolutely love it. So worth the $88 I spent on it.

This camera is simple, yet does exactly what I need, in a size that can’t be beat.
I am mounting it on my RC sailplane where weight is a consideration. But this device is NO concern at all. I don’t have a scale but it seems like it weighs less than a AA battery!
The picture quality is good in daylight. I would not recommend it for reduced lighting situations.
The USB worked on my Macbook and PC right away.

Starting The Business

Like Fred Smith and the roots of FedEx, Philip Knight’s firstborn ideas of what would become Nike Inc. came to him while he was at

school. While working on his master’s at Stanford, Knight – an accomplished runner for the duration of his undergrad days at the University

of Oregon – wrote an essay that outlined a plan to get over the monopoly Adidas had on the running shoe market. He thought the way

exist, except in his mind). Knight convinced Tiger to export their shoes to the States altho Blue Ribbon and had them send samples

so his associates could inspect them.

Knight paid for the samples with cash from his father. He sent a few pairs to Bill Bowerman, Knight’s track coach from his days at

the University of Oregon, who became fascinated in the venture. Knight and Bowerman became collaborators and put $500 each into the

purchase of 200 pairs of Tigers. Blue Ribbon Sports was formed, and Knight begun going to high school track and field events

selling the shoes from the trunk of his car.

Sales were at $3 million dollars when Knight chose to dissolve the cooperative relationship with Tiger in the early 1970s. Blue Ribbon started out

producing it is own line and begun syndication it is Nike line (named after the Greek goddess of victory) in 1972. These firstborn Nike shoes

were adorned with the now-internationally recognizable swoosh logo – which Knight had commissioned for $35 – and had the

traction-improving “waffle soles”, conceived of by Bowerman while watching his wife using a waffle iron.

Building An Empire

Blue Ribbon’s success (renamed Nike in 1978) allround the 1970s and into the ’80s may largely be attributed to Knight’s syndication

strategy. He thought it best not to push his Nike shoes even though advertising, but rather to let expert athletes endorse his product.

Fortune smiled on Knight as his collaborator Bill Bowerman became the coach of the American Olympic team and a heap of of the best performers

difficulties.

Through Problems and Controversy
