5My favorite knife.
By Jerm’n
The agressive texture/design and the G10 scales on the handle provide an excellent grip.

The 154cm is a premium blade steel and my favorite(along with S30v) for blades of this size. I like the “reverse tanto” profile of the blade as well. It’s practical(more so than a true tanto IMO) and has a nice look to it.

It’s also just a great looking knife all arround.

I’ve had alot of problems with spine and liner locks(wearing out, giving out, and being inadvertently unlocked). I’m now sold on the Benchmade Axis locks. They lock up rock solid and make for easy one-handed use(opening and closing).

I’ve owned(/own) many $100+ kinves(mostly folders) and this is the one that rides in my pocket 90% of the time.

The one possible issue is size and appearance. It’s not diminutive or “cuddly” looking by any means. I flipped it out one day at the mall to cut free a balloon I had tied to a rental stroller…Got a few looks. I make a point now to use the blade on my Leatherman Skeletool CX arround what may be more timid types. :)

Are all excellent

Negative-

5Benchmade 950 is a great knife!
By Entropy
I’ve owned a lot of Benchmades and I like this one a lot. For me, it’s the ideal blade length at 3.6″, and it folds down into a pretty compact package. Of course it has the axis lock, and a much more durable handle than the griptillian series. The reverse tanto adds enough thickness to the overall profile for strength, but the edge is wide enough with an acute enough edge angle for deep penetrating cutting. The point is also acute enough to be useful unlike a lot of wider bladed folders. It’s a great woods knife, and would likely be ideal for defense if that need ever comes.

5Excellent knife, but NOT an Axis Assist. (Misleading title)
By Parrish
Axis is a type of blade lock. Benchmade patented the Axis system, and it’s likely the best in the industry. However, it is NOT an assisted-open knife. Check the part numbers. The 950-series are Axis-lock knives, which are not assisted-open knives (manual opening). The Axis-Assist knives (Axis Auto) are 9555-series, and are restricted in many states (think switchblade).
